Background of the Study
Telemedicine has emerged as a critical solution for improving healthcare accessibility, especially in rural and underserved areas. By enabling remote consultations, telemedicine reduces patient travel time and enhances access to specialized healthcare services. However, its implementation in Nigeria, including Kaduna State, has faced multiple obstacles, such as inadequate infrastructure, resistance from healthcare professionals, and concerns over data security.
Kaduna State has a diverse healthcare system, serving both urban and rural populations. While telemedicine has the potential to improve healthcare delivery, its adoption remains slow due to technological, financial, and regulatory barriers. This study aims to appraise the challenges hindering telemedicine implementation in Kaduna State and propose solutions for its successful adoption.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the growing need for telemedicine in Kaduna State, its adoption has been slow due to challenges such as poor internet connectivity, lack of digital literacy, and regulatory uncertainties. Many healthcare providers are hesitant to use telemedicine due to concerns about service quality and reimbursement policies. This study will assess the major challenges affecting telemedicine implementation and recommend strategies to improve its adoption.
Objectives of the Study
To examine the challenges hindering telemedicine implementation in Kaduna State.
To assess the impact of telemedicine on healthcare accessibility in the state.
To propose solutions for overcoming barriers to telemedicine adoption.
